INTRODUCTION

The mission of the Stormwater Section is to promote public health, safety and general welfare, to minimize public and private losses due to flood conditions within the City of Flagstaff, and to comply with the applicable floodplain and stormwater regulations.

The Stormwater Section includes: administration, utility management, engineering, hydrology, technical support, master planning, data collection, field inspection and plan review components.

FY 08 Accomplishments

  • Completed four Drainage Improvement Projects for a program cost of $145,146
  • Launched Phase II of the Stormwater Master Drainage Plan
  • Completed the majority of the drainage system infrastructure inventory
  • Completed the first 5-year NPDES permit in compliance with state & federal standards
 

FY 09 Initiatives

  • Implement and launch a Low Impact Development program
  • Develop a Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP) that will comply with the renewed NPDES permit requirements
  • Begin Phase 3 of the Stormwater Master Plan
  • Maintain the National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System flood insurance score which provides a 15% discount on flood insurance for those who are required to carry flood insurance
